LET’S TALK BOOKS

How fun is it to read a good book if you can’t tell others about it.

I love to read. I usually have 2-3 books going at once. Maybe an audiobook to listen to when I drive, a book on my iPad, and a book to hold in my hands. My love of reading began when I read “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. I love being able to listen to books. I started listening to books on CD when I was driving to the small schools in Erath County. Now, I have something downloaded on my phone nearly all of the time.

I use the library for most of my books. They all have an extensive list of books to borrow in any format you choose. We need to use our libraries–use it or lose it, I believe. They aren’t just your smelly buildings full of bookshelves where you have to whisper anymore. If you have small children or grandchildren I urge you to take them to the library. They have tons of activities for them besides just books.

I originally had a page attached with a list of authors and books that I have read and loved but honestly, it was too long and I kept adding to it. If you would like to look at it you can open it here. http://just5101.temp.domains/~westtxwo/favorite-authors/

I do want to give you a link to a great resource I stumbled upon at the library last year. It is called the “Lariat List”. It is a list of books composed by Texas librarians that “merit special attention from adult readers”. I read nearly all of the books on the 2018 list and would recommend all but 1 of them. There are other lists at this site including lists for children and adolescent ages. https://txla.org/tools-resources/reading-lists/

If you’ve read something that you liked please leave a comment so that others can enjoy too. Jacky won’t mind if I don’t cook for a week while I read a good book!

  1. You are so right about libraries! They are sometimes the most beautiful interesting buildings in a city with all kinds of different exhibits. I love books, real books, and hope we always continue to publish them. Even if we have to kill a couple of trees to do so.
Thanks for the heads up about The Lariet List:)

Let me know what you think.
