More Books

I used to say that my dream job would be to review books. Well, I’m not getting paid, but that’s ok. I’ve read or listened to some good books lately that I want to share.

“Camino Island” by John Grisham was a really nice surprise. I have always like his writing but kind of get tired of all of his “lawyer” books (sorry Clay). This 1 is about the theft of the original manuscripts of some of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s books. The ending is no surprise but it’s a feel good book and I liked it. The only problem is that I listened to it as an audiobook and in the book, he writes about a lot of other actual writers and books that I might want to read so now I need to get the ebook or borrow the actual book from the library so that I can note the other books and authors.

“Anatomy of a Scandal” by Sarah Vaughan is 1 of the best books I’ve ever read. It is set in England and is about a prosecutor who is prosecuting a politician for rape. You find out later in the book that he had actually raped her while she was at Oxford. I’m not ruining anything here. You have to read it to find out all the details.

My friend, Denise gave me the book “Dollbaby” by Laura Lane McNeal. It is set in New Orleans. It’s about a young girl growing up under the care of her grandmother and her housekeepers during the 60’s. The ending totally caught me by surprise. You will laugh and cry when you read this one. Thanks, Denise.

The last 1 is “The Fabulous Bouvier Sisters” by Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger. It’s about Jackie Kennedy Onassis and her sister Lee Radziwill. Let me just say that, if everything in the book is true, those 2 took sibling rivalry to a whole new level. It is also revealing about how much influence our parents have over our lives. It really was a good read.

My friend JoLynn has recommended a new author to me: Louise Penny. I am listening to 1 of them now and like it. I have about an hour left of listening and I still haven’t figured out “who done it”. If you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments section to share with others. Happy reading.

  1. Great reviews….always looking for a good book. Anxious to read the John Grisham one…Brent got me hooked on him years ago. The others look very interesting, as well!

Let me know what you think.
