I told myself and friends that when I wrote posts for this blog I would stay out of political messages. I am being true to that but I do want to write about some observations I have made recently that have made me think about my own actions.
I allowed myself to get drawn into an online debate with a friend who sees things differently from me recently. I didn’t like that by I let myself get sucked in, not by her, but by myself. It really made me think about social media and it’s effect on me and I concluded that it wasn’t good. I told myself I would only check it once a day, not get involved in political debates, etc. That worked for about a week. The day after the State of the Union address by President Trump things really got ugly…by people on both sides of the Trump/Pelosi line. I didn’t like all of the characterizations of Pelosi. They reminded me of grade school bullies. I used to love watching late-night TV but haven’t watched it in years because of the disrespect they show to the President, no matter who it is. I get angry every time I see cartoons of President Trump and his family. It’s just gotten so ugly.
I think we would all agree that our country is a mess. There is so much hate spewed by, not only our leaders and “hope to be” leaders but we us too. Why not, instead of spreading the jokes, rumors, lies, and hate that we take the high road? Instead of us reposting those nasty characterizations and false stories let’s pray for our leaders and our nation. I shared a post from the Denison Forum that you can read https://www.denisonforum.org/columns/daily-article/speaker-pelosi-tears-up-the-presidents-speech-three-biblical-responses-to-the-divisions-in-our-nation/ . I was called out, and I guess he was too, for not mentioning the fact that President Trump refused to shake Nancy Pelosi’s hand. He mentioned it in his post the next day. Anyway, what I saw and what I hope you see as the point of the article is for people to pray.
“I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
I have now logged off of Facebook for a while, or maybe forever. It’s what I feel I need to do. I’m not telling anyone else to do the same. That said, if you want to comment, good or bad, please comment on my blog or email me : westtxwoman@yahoo.com. If you like what you read, please reshare for me.
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1Timothy 2:1-2
Thank you for this blog, Candy. It is thoughtful, timely and uplifting.
Perfectly said. I try to stay out of the political stuff, too. I don’t read a lot of it. I have become very disillusioned with some of my friends because they have the need to spew the hate. It’s not healthy and it makes me wonder why anyone would want people to know that they have so much hate inside them. Keep writing. I love your blog.
Thank you, JoLynn
I was doing the same thing! I was mostly frustrated with family members! ( mostly Dale’s) haha. Then I decided to just look for the good and funny things that make my heart smile! I’m happy it’s not just me!! ❤️🤪
